What to include in a 72-hour survival kit? Key elements and tips from the EU’s recommended guidelines.

The European Union has issued a guide “to survive for at least 72 hours” in the event of a disaster.

The European Union announced on Tuesday that it would be releasing a guide encouraging citizens to stock up on various items it considers essential “to be able to survive for at least 72 hours without outside assistance”. The document, released on Wednesday, outlines a series of basic items that should form part of a survival pack in the event of a future catastrophe of any kind. Water, staple foods, medicines and even batteries and fire extinguishers are among the essential supplies that Brussels officials deem vital in such situations.

What should this emergency kit include?

Key components of the kit include non-perishable food, water and water purification tablets, medicines, as well as useful items and tools. This is where our sector comes into focus – one that has contributed so much and continues to play a crucial role in all kinds of global crises.

Useful items and tools

Essential useful items and basic tools include a multi-purpose knife, pliers, a tin opener, duct tape and standard adhesive tape. A small smoke detector and a hand-held fire extinguisher may also prove vital in certain emergency scenarios.

Although at QUIMICA 21 we hope such a kit will never need to be used, we simply wish to remind everyone that we belong to a sector that remains essential to our customers’ lives – even in the worst-case scenarios.
