FIRE SAFETY IN SHOPPING CENTRES AND ENTERTAINMENT VENUES

According to current legislation, public places such as shopping centres and/or entertainment venues are required to have fire safety systems that include automatic sprinklers, smoke extraction systems, fire detection and extinguishing installations, as well as well-marked evacuation and emergency routes that are free of obstacles. It is crucial to be meticulous in adhering to regulations during inspections and maintenance.

Ensuring that all staff are adequately trained for emergency situations is of paramount importance.

Could the tragic fire in the Atalayas entertainment venues have been prevented or its effects minimised? Perhaps not.

There should be a clear and concise overall criterion for both active and passive fire protection measures, taking into account factors such as the fire reaction of materials like furniture and décor, fire resistance of constructed structures, enclosures, etc.

It is essential to guarantee sufficient time for a calm evacuation, avoiding personal harm and facilitating the intervention of emergency teams.
