FIRES IN PHOTOVOLTAIC SYSTEMS
Why is fire safety important in photovoltaic systems? We’re currently in a time of transition as we shift to an energy model based on renewable sources. The result of the initiative and support being shown at present for photovoltaic systems destined for self-consumption is the installation of solar panels on many roofs.
Indeed, each year the number of photovoltaic systems doubles. However, fires in these types of solar installations are also on the rise.
How can we prevent a fire in our system from burning down a home or an industrial facility?
One of the most basic and effective ways to do so is to seal the gaps and use intumescent paint, even on wires, as the majority of fires begin in the facility and propagate to the inside via gaps and wires.
Separate the AC and DC circuits, using different channels, and install magnetothermic switches at the inverter’s outlet as well as the point of discharge, along with a circuit breaker.
Today, there are solar panel blockers that create an electrically secure area, eliminating the risk of a short circuit and electrocution that causes fires.
